This section of Maine which includes Portland with its diverse cultural agenda, fine restaurants and lodging to world famous Old Orchard Beach, a Mecca for vacation and amusement goers with world class beaches, numerous amusement parks complete with water slides, and great food.  Artists, musicians, writers and famous retirees such as former President Bush at his Kennebunkport home, all call this area of Maine “home.” 

Route 1 beginning in Kittery follows the Maine coast line and provides vacationers with scenic ocean views.  Stop and shop at one of the many quaint seacoast villages, or visit one of the majestic lighthouses which are located along this stretch of Maine coast.  If you like Victorian homes you will fall in love with this area as hundreds of turn of the century homes can be found in this area, many of which offer weary travelers a place to stay as Bed & Breakfast getaways. 

 Museums, state parks, lighthouses, quaint sea side shops all too numerous to mention, beckon travelers to this area with offerings of true Maine “Down East” hospitality which frequently finds an end to a perfect day gazing over a  expanses of ocean while enjoying a feast of steamed clams and lobsters.
